I’m back from my little Insta break ✨ (I’ll probably disappear again soon lol burnout is real)

Not posted for a while or even thought about what to share on here because I am at full capacity with other things and it’s been nice to have one less thing to think about

My time not posting has really made me realise one thing though, that I was posting for likes and to ‘keep up’ my blog for all the wrong reasons. So I’m back, and my little space on the internet is going to be more of what I get up to, the things I love and sharing more like a diary rather than figuring out what hashtags to use, if my feed looks okay and if I’m posting too many topics - I haven’t got the brain capacity for that right now

So, first up is me showing off my new hair - honestly after not having it cut since last August it felt an absolute treat to have it cut and even styled for once so hello curtain bangs 💇🏻‍♀️

Anyone else leave it well over 6 months between haircuts and wonder why it looks like a birds nest? 💫

Sometimes I wish my head could be as serene and still as this photo 🍃 after recent discussions with friends, I’ve found out that not everyone has 10,000 thoughts racing through their head at one given moment. I am envious. I am always, always, always thinking / worrying about something and I am - quite frankly - exhausted. How can I stop this? Is it meditation that might help me?

Do you have an inner monologue talking to you about things all the time? Or are you better able to control your thoughts than me... ✨

Do you worry about changing your mind a lot and how it might look to people? ✨ I’ve always had lots of ideas of things I could do as a career, hobbies, life plans etc and I try my best to play them out in my head, while keeping quiet about them to people. I wonder if it’s the presence of social media, especially LinkedIn and Instagram, that makes me ashamed to change my mind a lot in case people see it as being weak or think ‘oh lol, maddie has changed her mind or given up with something again’. But there really isn’t anything bad or shameful about trying things and them not working out for you, or running with an idea and finding that you were just getting a bit carried away. If you’re in need of a book to change your life

If you’re in need of a book to change your life then I would 10/10 recommend this 📚 I read this in January and thought it was a great read, it set out such simple and clear (I guess it’s in the name) ways to tackle habits. Making new, good habits and getting rid of old, terrible ones - it was all explained. I didn’t think I’d learnt tooooo much from this book at the time that I could apply to my life but since reading it, I’ve managed to read every day this year and made a really enjoyable habit of it. More recently, however, I’ve finally started to like running and have kept it up for a month - something I would never have been able to do before without reading this (I promise!). This book taught me that even doing it for 5 minutes will help build the habit, so I’ve been doing 3x 10 minute runs each week and I’ve not missed two runs in a row (something else that this book warns you against). So, if this book and its explanations / advice can help me actually begin to like running and keep it up for 3 weeks longer than I ever have, I would definitely recommend it 📖 have you read Atomic Habits?

Being able to explore and enjoy London again is so nice, feels like throwing away money on rent isn’t so pointless anymore ✨ ps I’m only laughing because I nearly dropped pizza on my shirt, see third pic for the realities of trying to look cute with a slice of pizza 🍕

I never thought the hardest part of a lockdown wou

I never thought the hardest part of a lockdown would be coming out of it but it makes so much sense 🌷 this time last year, it would have been quite easy to go back to normal life, and it was over the summer. But now, a year and a bit later, my idea of normal has changed. I’ve got used to nights in, going on long walks instead of going out for lunch and drinks, and - the biggest thing for me - I’ve got used to a world of remote working. I can’t expect myself or anyone to not feel like the last year is now just how life is, it’s been so long that of course change now feels weird and scary, rather than welcome. So for anyone else feeling really weirded out by things opening up, or for feeling bad about feeling that way, you are not alone and it is so so understandable 💛 I’m looking forward to making my own hybrid of normal and lockdown life and sticking to that. What elements of normal life have you missed and are pleased to be enjoying again? ✨

I didn’t feel amazing yesterday but I know exactly why... ✨ over the years I’ve learnt to understand my mental health quite well, and I think it’s been more important to me to understand why I feel bad, rather than how I can make myself feel better. It almost takes a pressure off the sadness and anxiety by knowing, most of the time, why I might feel like that. Whether I’ve had a few drinks the day before, the weather is miserable or if it’s coming up to that time of the month. There’s so many things that I now really understand about myself and I’m so grateful to know my mental health that well. It took a while but we got there 😌💛

Does anyone else find it hard to not slip into bel

Does anyone else find it hard to not slip into believing that the online world matters more than our actual lives? 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s not that I ever actually think “social media and being online is more important than my real life” but I do get worried because I’m actually shocked when I think to myself “there’s a whole world in front of me that has nothing to do with social media and screens”. Why am I so shocked to realise how important actual life is? It is pretty scary but I’m sure a lot of us feel that way... don’t we? 🥴
