Does anyone else constantly battle with their brai

Does anyone else constantly battle with their brain about whether to chill out or be productive? I’m always torn between whether I should work or chill, and if I work have I done too much? Or not enough?... and when I’m chilling I wonder if I’m wasting time or question what I even enjoy doing? It’s exhausting

That’s pretty much been my thought process all day - a nice day off work nonetheless ❤️ anyone else feel like this? I think the lockdown makes these thought patterns so much more frequent too 😌

At the moment I’ve felt like I’m just existing and that really sucks but I’m sure a lot of us are feeling that way. One thing I’ve found comfort in, is realising that my life before all this happened was more than existing and I was actually really happy

Sure, I didn’t really know what was going on and where I wanted my post-uni life to take me but at least I was keeping busy, doing things I loved in my spare time and surrounding myself with lots of great people

So I am excited to get back to life as it was, and I will - hopefully - continue to appreciate all of the little things more, like this beautiful walk I went on this afternoon with my mum and my dog, Henry 💛

Is there one thing in particular that you miss about pre-pandemic life that you didn’t appreciate much at the time? 👇🏻

Absolutely obsessed with new planners and notebooks 📓 anyone else instantly feel like they have their life together (for two mins) with a new diary?

I’m feeling very overwhelmed since the new lockdown was announced, together with the ongoing buzz of ‘new year new me’ messages 😖 and the fact that January is always the worst month of the year for me so I’m going to use these new stationery additions to look at each day as it comes rather than planning far into the future

Although I may use the notebook to plan my dreams out, like what I need to do to set up a dog walking business or own a plant shop 🪴 a girl can dream hey

Welcome to a new chapter of Mind The Gap Graduates ☕️

As you might have seen on my stories, I’ve restarted my old blog Maddie’s Ventures. This is my lifestyle blog where I’ll talk about everything and nothing, and won’t have to question if it’s relevant to being a graduate (like why I find comfort in moving the furniture in my room around or my favourite plants 🪴)

This Instagram will remain pretty much the same - sharing little insights into my life as a 22-year old - and the Mind The Gap Graduates website will hopefully become what I’ve always wanted it to be: a hub for grads and students navigating their first few years of life after education.

Everyone’s support in 2020 has meant the entire world to me, and I still get really emotional when someone messages me saying how much my blog has helped them to feel less alone or to realise things about their post-uni life. So thank you - from the bottom of my heart ❤️

That wonderful time of year when I’m not sure what day it is, can’t decide whether to read, nap or work, and feel that strange sense of at peace-ness where nothing else matters apart from resting ahead of a new year. Anyone else love this time (even with all this chaos still going on)? ✨

I wasn’t going to post on my feed again until the New Year but I wanted to say... you deserve to take some time over the next week or two (or longer) to just be

From a personal point of view, I’m exhausted. I’ve spent so much of the year trying to throw myself into work, my blog and keeping loved ones going that I’ve forgotten to rest and look after myself

It’s got to the end of the year, we’re still in this rubbish storm, and I’m wondering if I pushed myself too much. So this is my little reminder to you, to do it for yourself and take a break this Christmas and let’s try and tackle the challenges of next year with a fresh approach and a rested self

Once again, a ramble from me but for anyone that’s feeling the same, I hope you know you’re not alone and we do deserve a rest 💛

I’ve been thinking a lot about why I struggle so much as a graduate, and it’s no wonder I feel a bit battered and bruised. Especially after 2020, which has been a crazy way to start my adult life and career

So why is it so hard to adjust to life after university? And, for these reasons, I think we should stop being hard on ourselves ✨

We’re used to structure 📚
In education we’re used to timetables and set lessons, so when we’re left to organise our lives and days at work, it’s really new and confusing

No one is doing the same thing 👯‍♀️
We feel behind, out of sync and generally confused because there’s not set ‘things’ we’re working towards anymore. And what we want, is unlikely to be the exact same as our friends

We don’t really get any life / career advice 👩🏻‍💻
It’s a bit odd that we’re not told how to find our passion, how to get a job, how to ask for a pay rise or how to look after ourselves - so we’re all a bit clueless when we leave education aren’t we?

Struggling mentally is a real problem 💛
Self-doubt, anxiety, loneliness, feeling low and a lot more are all real issues. These can be brought on by changes in circumstance and leaving education is one hell of a change

There’s been a pandemic 🌍
Oh yeah, the big one this year, is anyone actually feeling like they’re on track right now? No. And is that understandable? Of course it is. Stop being so hard on yourself ❤️

How to set attainable goals for 2021 ✨

As we approach a new year, many of us are probably thinking about what we would like 2021 to hold for us.

2020 hasn't been the year we were all hoping for, and many of our goals have fallen off the radar. So how can we set intentional, attainable goals for 2021?

Set monthly goals
It can be really overwhelming to set huge goals that will take a whole year to achieve, so break them down into monthly, attainable goals. It’s easier to keep track and make ourselves accountable this way.

Be more descriptive
Don't just write "I want to achieve X". Be descriptive about it, quantify it if you can and write down the actions you need to take to get there. It’ll help you to take the steps toward achieving it rather than just hoping.

Work backwards
If your goal for the year is to save £1000, work backwards to figure out how much you'll need to save each week or month to meet this bigger goal. Again, it’ll help you to get there and see smaller results along the way.

Be realistic
It's always tempting to set ourselves big goals, but if we know deep down we won't achieve some of them, don't write them down. It's better to give yourself just two or three goals that you know you can hit, rather than having goals that you never meet and will make you sad.
